why grow your own marijuana?

Having trouble deciding to grow your own cannabis plant? Here are some reasons why you should!

it will save you money

Although you will have to pay up a bit initially to get going (particularly for indoor growers), the advantages of growing your own cannabis in the long term are financially very beneficial. Going to a dispensary can get quite pricey but once you start growing your own, the initial costs will soon be covered once you have grown a plant successfully. You do not really need all that much to get started either.

you know where it is coming from

One of the best reasons to grow your own cannabis is that you know exactly what has gone into it. You have choice of which fertilizers or pesticides to use and are able to cultivate the plant yourself. When you go to a dispensary you have no idea what has exactly gone onto the plant or how good their pest control is, etc. By growing it yourself you have full control over everything. Drying and curing the plant yourself will allow you to put much more time into creating a good quality cannabis, which will only be improved the more you learn.

it is not too difficult to grow

Growing cannabis at home is really not much different from growing basic garden plants. They do need a lot of attention, and of course you will have a few hiccups, but once you learn from your mistakes, the easier it gets. The cannabis plant is actually pretty easy and to look after. Cannabis is a robust and beautiful plant to grow and is not too dissimilar to growing your own tomatoes. Make sure you do your research though, as some strains are much better for beginner growers.

you will learn a lot

The act of growing is extremely rewarding. Just think how much you can learn from growing your own marijuana! Starting with the basics of plant growing, health and how to take care of it, the stages of plant growth, to experimenting with different strains, finding out more on the plant itself and how each variety produces different results. This is a fun challenge and hobby to take up, whether you are indoor or outdoor growing, there is always something new to learn.

it's fun to grow your own cannabis

By growing your own cannabis, you can take up a new hobby. Yes, it takes work, but your efforts will be rewarded by a well grown plant you can cultivate. Plus, gardening is very therapeutic, so it’s a great way to connect with your mind and nature, as well as a stress relief after a busy day at work. Gardening allows you to have some quiet thinking time to yourself and just enjoying working with nature.

it's been legalised in places

Now that it’s legal to grow at home in the ACT (and other places worldwide), there’s no better time to get stuck in and give it a go! Many people have been wanting this change for a long time, so make the most of it and learn how you can get started yourself.

*at CG Australia we do not condone the illegal growing of cannabis. Please ensure it is legal in your area.

you can choose which strains to grow

Growing your own cannabis allows you to choose which strains of the plant you want to grow. You can have some fun here, mixing them up and perhaps even coming up with a new strain yourself? This is your chance to really learn more in-depth and discover which strain works for you and how each type has different effects when being used.

medical benefits

For those suffering from any medical ailments such as chronical pain, seizures or autoimmune diseases, the effects of marijuana can have great benefits. Having a constant supply and knowing you won’t run out can be a relief and a comfort. Plus, you know exactly where it has come from and what pesticides have been used/ not used.

it's accessible

Growing your own plants means that you should have a consistent supply of weed, and no need to make a trip to the dispensary. Depending on where you live, the dispensary may be a long drive away or just generally take up more time out of your day. Having a supply at home means you have more time on your hands- which of course can be put in to growing high quality marijuana!

you can experiment

When growing your own marijuana, you will have access to all parts of the plant, like the stems for example. You can use these extracts to experiment, perhaps in baking your own hash cookies! You could also press all the extras left over and use that to make oil or butter.

it's discreet

Growing your own cannabis plants at home can be a discreet way of enjoying it’s benefits but not necessarily advertising it to the world. If you feel slightly uncomfortable of who you might meet when you’re buying plants from the dispensary (for example, your employer, or anyone else you’d rather not know you use cannabis), then growing at home can be an easy way to avoid any awkward situations.
